Cynthia Tripp

Painter, Illustrator, Mixed-Media

Cynthia Tripp is a fifth-generation artist from Saugatuck, Michigan, whose work moves between painting, drawing, and design with a rare balance of refinement and intuition. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan, studied with Mignonette Yin Cheng, and continued her design studies at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, Germany.

Across decades of creative practice, Tripp has developed a visual language grounded in timelessness, formal clarity, and a deep sensitivity to perception. Her work draws from enduring traditions—including Bauhaus, Shaker design, Native American influences, and the lyrical modernism of Alexander Calder—while remaining distinctly her own.

Her paintings and drawings have been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and abroad, and her product designs have been included in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago as well as in collections around the world. She has received awards and recognition from the Tucson Museum of Art, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the Goethe-Institut, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Colorado Wine Festival and the University of Michigan. In addition to her studio work, she is also recognized as an instructor, speaker and moderator. Tripp is a lifetime member of the Saugatuck-Douglas Art Club, a contributing artist to the Ox-Bow School of Art, and a member of the National Watercolor Society as well as the Vail Valley Art Guild.
