About the event

About Raymond Bleesz:

A self taught photographer since 1976, Bleesz has studied the History & Aesthetics of Fine Art Photography & practiced such in his own work in classic BW imagery, photographs of People, Places, Events & Things, a Social Scientist, a Historian at work, a Documentarian. He was impacted greatly by the New Topographics School of Photography (1978) & follows those concepts. He considers himself a “Regionalist Photographer of the West”. He is interested in the “Zeitgeist” of his time & place, showing evidence of dry humor, idiosyncrasies, paradoxes & juxtapositions.

About the Exhibit:  "Portraits—Eagle County & Beyond"

14 portraits covering film & digital from 1978 to present depicting Bleesz”s interest in the human face, capturing an “artifact, an individual’s being” where there is “trust and connectivity" between the photographer and his subject. Call it respect, or affection or creedence, his portraits are distinct and particular, a working Humanist in portraiture. Baudelaire’s famous statement of 1859: "A portrait! What could be more simple and more complex, more obvious and more profound” impacts Bleesz’s thinking.

The exhibit runs through the month of December during normal library hours.
