Lu Beltrán Workshop: Experimenting with Form and Color

Lu Beltrán was born in the middle of the Andes mountains in Medellín, Colombia. She grew up in the capital of Bogotá, Colombia, eventually attending Pontifical Xavierian University, where she studied Visual Arts under Nicolás Uribe, among other notable artists. She continued her studies abroad, in Canada, as well as in Valencia and Madrid, Spain. Lu is a Ceramicist, as well as an accomplished Painter. Her work hangs in private collections throughout the world.

Lu will guide the students through a series of exercises that will help each student broaden the way they see and use color. Day One: Explore limited color palettes through the playful uses of light, loosen up with quick sketches and experiment with paint thickness.  Day Two:  Paint with unlimited color palettes using a variety of still-life setups, as well as photo references of their choosing.

Skill Level: Beginner to Advanced

Medium: Focus on Oil, though Acrylic and Gouache are also welcome.

Materials List: Drop cloth; easel; (8 to 10)-16"x20" or smaller canvases/panels; titanium white, yellow ochre, cadmium red and ivory black paint; other colors of your choice (bring what you have); mixed sized brushes; pencil; palette or old plate; Odorless Turpentine or Gamsol (Please avoid strong smelling mediums).
