About the event

"Using  India ink, charcoal, or paint we will work non-objectively using blind  contour drawing and the method of 'three dumb shapes.' Then,  concentrating on the composition, we may see something in the piece to pursue or continue the abstract to not only create something unique but compositionally exciting too. We will show you how to use this method for any subject matter: landscapes, figures, still lifes or abstracts." – Peggy

Please bring a protective table covering, trash bag for your use, lunch and water.

Materials List:

Brushes:

  • Your choice of large, medium and small.
  • Get creative with texture tools. The hardware store has many ideas in the tile aisle and the paintbrush aisle.

Surfaces:

  • Canvas board and/or stretched canvas - small for practice pieces and  larger. 16x20, 18x24, 24x24.

Paint and Glue Medium:

  • Acrylics or Watercolors of your choice.
  • Polymer Gel  Medium Gloss for glue sticks best (+ cheap brush for spreading).
  • Water Base Polymer Finish (Satin) from the hardware store. This is a great way to finish your work after it is dry and finished.
  • Drawing pencils, pastels, charcoal, India ink with a wide brush gives a wonderful “start” to a collage.

Materials:

  • Your own collection of collage paper, old letters music sheets, printed  paper from your own photos (I have taken close up photo shots of  flowers, driftwood, rusty surfaces), fabric, lace, stencils, dried flowers... anything that can bring texture and color into the piece you’re  working on.
  • Gold and silver leaf with glue. Buying thru Amazon is much  cheaper. Use your imagination.
  • Container for water, low and wide so it doesn’t tip over.
  • Rubbing alcohol and container for brushing on to a surface rather than pouring.
  • Paper towels.
