About the event

Just one year ago, the Red Table Fire erupted in the Sylvan Lake State Park.  Guild member and photographer Janet Burmeister was able to capture an incredible image of the flashpoint from her yard in Cordillera.

Each year the Guild poses a challenge for its members called “Side by Side”: a photographer’s work is painted by an artist. This year’s challenge was a recent event or a well-known place in Eagle County. We are please to say the works from photographer Janet Burmeister and artist Margo Thomas have  been donated to the Sylvan Lake State Park.  The two pieces of art are hanging in the visitor center to create a visual impact and foster storytelling about climate change and fire safety.

On June 20, 2022, the one year anniversary of the fire beginning, the Vail Valley Art Guild, along with Janet and Margo, will be dedicating a plaque to help  create awareness about climate change and fire safety through visual art.

Please join us for refreshments and discussion about we can work as a community to continue the conversation.
