Orientation

Orientation was painted in response to the 2025 election, and contains an original poem titled, "Orientation"

Look to the helpers, the artists, the poets. Feed your children, the neighbor’s children and any strays. Stand in the trees. Look at the ocean if you can. Imagine the great blue whale slicing through the water, her baby tucked next to her dorsal fin, swimming in her wake. Put some flowers on your table if you have a table. Go talk to your Nana if you have a Nana. Shop for an apartment in Portugal (I jest. Jest lightly.) Move your body if you can move your body. Mourn. Weep and beat your chest. Get angry. Dream bigger. Protest by existing boldly. This little glowing brick we keep in our pockets cannot tell you who you are. Pet a cat if you can find one. Listen to music. Love your neighbor. Band together. This is not the first time this has happened. There are roadmaps through. The snow will still fall. The sun will still rise and set. Orient yourself by watching the moon. The tide. Write your feelings in a notebook. Kiss your mother. Keep your chin up.
