Rosie Burkie Painter Standard Rosie Burki grew up in Bern, Switzerland. While in school she always liked drawing and singing and got the best grades in school. In 1967 she immigrated to Toronto, Canada to meet up with her fiancé. There, she completed work on a painting in 1969 made directly with tubes of paint on canvas. It ended up winning the “Best Modernistic Art Ribbon”. In 1970 she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas- from cold to hot weather. There, her work focused on Sea Shell Art and selling it on the T heads. In 1977, with two little children, she moved to a better climate, to ski and camp with family arriving in the Gore Valley and is still here today playing music and painting with VVAG and WCDA / SDP. Soodi Kick Impressionist Painter Standard I am Soodi Kick, born in Iran, moved to United States, met and married my husband at Ohio University, became a US citizen, and started my early carriers in Architecture and then in Nutrition. I started painting in university and continued taking classes, part time. A couple of years ago we retired and since then I have been spending more of my time doing art. I am an impressionist painter, with emphasis in figurative arts. I have the intention to become a full time artist and a part of this commitment is how to dedicate more time, producing and developing my style. Using man made and recycled materials on canvas, to bring texture and unity in my art work, is one of the areas of interest and work plan. We moved to Raleigh several years ago and I have visited Art Space and have fallen in love with the concept and energy in the space given to artist. Now we are in the process of returning to Eagle County and I hope to bring some of my experiences from back east to the Guild and community to keep building an appreciation of the arts in the valley. I have been a part time member of this group and participated in juried and non-juried art shows. I have sold many art pieces to individuals in the Vail Valley area. Dunwoody Fine Art Association (DFAA) - Dunwoody, Georgia Member: 2008-2015 DFAA is a very active membership of fine artists who show in the local areas of the city and have classes in art . I was an active part time member for many years, showing in juried art shows, and selling my art and taking classes. Spruil Art Center - Atlanta, Georgia Member: 2000-2015 I have been a member of Spruil Art Center, taking part in many advanced courses and worked in finding my style and techniques. Margo Thomas Painter and Digital Art Standard Margo began her art career about 20 years ago, studying human figure and contour drawing at the Art Student's League in Denver. In the last 5 years she has focused on abstract landscapes, reflecting the beauty of Eagle County. Her works blend acrylics, oils, digital, mixed media, alcohol ink, and shou sugi ban on wood, canvas, and paper. Recently she's painted outdoor electrical boxes, has works placed in local galleries, and has won awards at juried art shows. She hopes her art provides harmony, balance, and joy to all. Margo first arrived in our valley in 1982, barely knowing how to ski! Over the years she has become a passionate skier, holding various positions with Vail Resorts, most recently a ski instructor at Beaver Creek. Back in the 1980's she created one of the first computer applications for capturing World Cup race results to broadcast real-time in the Lodge at Vail international media room. Those were the days when Gerald Ford would stop by the command center to thank everyone for their hard work. Her commitment to our valley continues by serving our guests and community through outdoor and visual experiences. Andrew Pragner Painter and Print Maker Standard Andrew Pranger is a working painter and print-maker originally from Richmond, Virginia. He studied Fine Art Painting at the University of Brighton, one of England’s most well respected institutions, and graduated with honors. His work has been shown with many respected galleries and organizations throughout the US and England and sells privately as well. He started two collectives of young artists who found disused spaces in towns and turned them into temporary “pop up” galleries, gaining rave reviews from local and national art publications as well as the public. After years of living in Europe he returned to the US and currently lives in Eagle, Colorado where he is President of the Vail Valley Art Guild. Joann Carhart Levy Painter Standard Joann is primarily a plein air painter with oils and pastel being her preferred mediums. She is influenced by nature, the environment and the magnificent scenery Colorado has to offer with its changing seasons. Abstract brush strokes and impasto techniques utilizing texture and color are evident in her work. Largely self -taught yet from a musical and photographic background she started painting what was in front of her, hence the easy transition to plein air. Her favorite mentors came through attending workshops with Don Sahli, Mio Cirkovic and Greg Barnes who provided inspiration and guidance. Joann was instrumental in starting The Vail Valley Art Guild with Lynn Feiger and Karen Kalfas and has been involved in almost all aspects of the organization. Currently she chairs the Program Committee that helps organizes workshops for visiting artists, classes ,member meetings, demonstrations and special events as well as providing content and photos for the guild’s newsletter. Joann believes that the guild’s programs are a way to connect members with each other and experience the word of art. She spearheaded “ The Ranch Project”, a two- year effort by VVAG artists and photographers that documented sixteen area ranches in the Vail Valley culminating with a special presentation and exhibit with the Vail Symposium. Her deep ties to the community, established during her decades in the valley and particularly through her engagement in Avon's civic and cultural activities, equip her uniquely for this liaison role. Ruth's experience on the Cultural Arts Special Events Committee since its foundation demonstrates her commitment to the arts and community engagement, and her position as a Council Representative further solidifies her as a bridge between local government and cultural initiatives. Joining the Vail Valley Art Guild board, Ruth brings a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective that will be invaluable in crafting strategies to enhance the Guild’s visibility and impact within the community. Her goals include fostering stronger community connections and leveraging her understanding of public engagement to benefit the Guild. Her experience with CASE will allow her to introduce innovative event ideas and community-focused arts programming that could broaden the Guild's appeal and deepen its community ties. Ruth looks forward to assisting the Guild in building a robust relationship with the local community, which will not only enrich the cultural landscape of Avon but also reinforce the Guild as a pivotal player in the region's artistic community. Her vision includes creating collaborative opportunities that benefit both the Guild and the town, ultimately making art more accessible and engaging for residents and visitors alike. Lynn Feiger Painter Standard Lynn was the co-founder and first president of the VVAG and she is dedicated to helping build the art community in the Vail Valley. She paints in a variety of mediums, focusing on the mountain world she loves and the exuberant energies and spirits of mountains, people and animals. She was selected by Enrique Martinez Celaya, an internationally acclaimed painter and sculptor, for a five year mentorship and has received numerous awards for her work. Ms. Feiger has also been a civil rights litigator for many decades and won the first sexual harassment case in the United States. Today, she serves as a member of the Minturn Town Council. Rick Spitzer Photographer Standard Rick is a Colorado native and grew up in Greeley, Colorado. He completed a BS degree in biology with a minor in chemistry at the University of Northern Colorado. He taught various science courses in grades 7 through 9 and later taught high school biology and photography. Rick worked 22 years as a director of technology in two school districts and retired in 2006 with 34 years in education. His all-time favorite job was 15 summers as a Seasonal Supervisory Park Ranger Naturalist in Rocky Mountain National Park. During his park service summers he sold prints through many gift shops in Grand Lake and Estes Park. He self-published “Focus on Photography: A Simple Guide to Better Pictures” and after retirement published a coffee table book titled “Colorado Mountain Passes: The States Most Accessible High Country Roadways.” Landscapes are among his many subjects, but his photographic passion is wildlife photography. Rick’s camera has captured most of Colorado’s wildlife in all the life zones of the state. His images have appeared in the Vail Daily and other newspapers, Colorado Outdoors, The National Geographic web site, Walking Mountains publications, and a number of local magazines and other publications.
