A Celebration of Life for Barbara Holden was held on Sunday, February 27th, 2022 at Brush Creek Pavilion in Eagle. Barbara was a long time supporter and artist with the VVAG. Guild member Raj Manickam put together this wonderful tribute!

Vail Valley Art Guild member Andrew Pranger worked with Eagle County Schools' Gifted/Talented Program to create a program for the county's gifted art students. Previously there were only gifted programs in areas such as math and science. Once identified, students had to put together a portfolio of their work and appear for an interview as part of the application program. 17 students were selected from Eagle Valley High School, Battle Mountain High School and all Eagle County Middle Schools. These students met for special classes culminating with a juried art show at the Vail Valley Art Guild Gallery on June 4, 2021. One of these students, a high school senior, had been adopted as a baby from China. She used this arts program to investigate her feelings about going to China to find her birth parents. In this painting, which was part of her portfolio, she depicts herself as a small child in the arms of her American mother and father surrounded by love with a dream bunny whispering in her ear. She has been accepted into the South Carolina School of Art and Design and will pursue a career in art.

Arvada Center - Art of the State 2022 January 20 - March 27, 2022 Every three years, all 10,000 square feet of the Arvada Center Galleries is filled with a celebratory survey of the incredible diversity, quality, and depth of work from Colorado Artists. After its start in 2013 and iterations in 2016 and 2019, Art of the State 2022 continues the legacy as a juried exhibition showing off the powerful scope of contemporary art from across the state. This open call open to all Colorado artists garnered 2,067 submissions by 734 artists. The jurors worked diligently to select a comprehensive overview of work that strives to capture a wide scope of art from across the state. From those entries, 149 artworks by 142 artists were selected. Raj's Juniper's Last Gasp photo was selected for this triennial show. We closely with the public libraries to exhibit member visual arts. Members Margo Thomas and Raymond Bleesz are longtime residents of Eagle County. Our exhibit lasts three months, from November 2021 - January 2022, rotating through Eagle County Libraries (Gypsum, Avon, and Vail). The objective for Side by Side was to have a photographer and an artist render the same scene/view/subject of something in Eagle County. Participants paired up at their choice and selected the subject. These images are displayed Side by Side. Join today to be part of this opportunity next year!
